There are several versions of my device - which one do I have?Updated a year ago

Phones, tablets and watches come in many, many different models and versions, and sometimes it can be a real challenge to find out exactly which model you have. Sometimes, different versions can use the same covers as they have the same dimensions and button-placements - but this is far from always the case.

Year and generation

Be aware, that the year of the model can be very important. Take for example Huawei Y6 and Huawei Y6 2019. These are very different models even though they have similar names. Often, manufacturers and shops fail to make it clear what model or version your device is. It can therefore be a good idea to ask about the model/version already when you buy the device. This way you know from the start if your model is a special version or model and can perhaps avoid problems when you start shopping for accessories.

Model name and number

In their names, Phones and watches often only differ from each other by small variations, fx. an extra letter or number.

Let's take the OnePlus 7 series as an example. This series includes these 4 variants: "OnePlus 7", "OnePlus 7 Pro", "OnePlus 7T" and "OnePlus 7T Pro". None of these similar-sounding model can use the same covers - they all have different dimensions or button-placements.

On the other hand, we have a 5th variant called "OnePlus 7 Pro 5G". This variant has the same dimensions and button-placement as "OnePlus 7 Pro" and therefore these two variants do share the same covers.

How to find out which model / version you have

One of the easiest ways to check your phone's model, is by using the phone itself. Go to the "Settings" or "Options" menu on your phone and find the menu item "About phone" or "About device" or something similar (exact paths will vary from phone to phone). Here, you can usually find both name and model number.

You can also check the invoice/receipt you got when you purchased the device. Be aware, though, as mentioned earlier, that shops often do not write the detailed name or model number for the device that they sell you. Therefore, it can sometimes be necessary to contact the shop and ask them exactly which version and model it is that they have sold you.

Another option is of course to search the internet for an answer. There are many websites that specializes in listing and comparing devices from their different specifications, variants, names etc.

One such website that we can recommend is: https://www.gsmarena.com/
Here you can search and compare more or less all phones and tablets ever made across models, variants and a huge range of specifications.
